Leverages the current experience and dynamic between coach and coachee as a representation of the coachee’s struggles outside the relationship.
The here and now is a concept that can be both attributed to ancient philosophies and mindfulness as well as to more modern practices such as gestalt therapy. In this case, I use it as more than just a grounding practice but as a working model of life outside of my relationship with coachees.
For example, how coachees relate and respond to their coach is often representative of how they operate with others in their life. By exploring the present relationship in a safe space with their coach, they are learning experientially about how they operate in life which is more powerful than learning about frameworks to apply later. It essentially moves the conversation away from abstract concepts and into real-life experience.
